In Quebec, suicide represents the second highest cause of mortality among adolescents. However, during the last 20 years, death by suicide has been on a steady decline in the province. As such, in 2019, adolescents had the lowest suicide rate (9.1 per 100,000 population) compared to the general population (13.3 per 100,000 population). Yet, it is estimated that 10% to 20% of Canadian children and youth are at risk of developing mental disorders, with anxiety disorders and depressive disorders being the most common.
